Exchange 5.5 Data Recovery by HDRG
MS Exchange 5.5 is an incredibly powerful corporate communications tool that can literally be the heart of an organization that sees collaboration as one of their strengths. These servers provide managers the skills to better manage employees, and also create an accountability system which ensures the strongest contributors are always contributing.
But what of the Exchange 5.5 server itself? Who is it accountable to when a hard drive fails? Does your company have a backup plan in cases of MS exchange server failure? If not, you should. But if you are finding yourself in a situation where you fear all may be lost in your MS exchange server, fear no longer. Hard Drive Recovery Group has a broad array of experience with Exchange 5.5, and has recovered lost data from systems working from one hard disk drive all the way up to RAID 10. Our experience speaks for itself.
So your Exchange Server is down?
Step one: Do not panic. All can be recovered very quickly, as long as you maintain a clear head and don’t attempt to go over your head trying to fix it.
Step two: Ensure that before you run any utilities (especially those from Microsoft itself!), you make backups of both your priv.edb and log files, or if you have an older Exchange 2000 or 2003 system, copy your stream files. Remember also to backup pub.edb. All of these files are absolutely critical to a successful recovery.
Step three: Call a professional. The toll free number above is your ticket to a free support solution that can ensure your exchange recovery is fast and as inexpensive as possible. Give us a call!

The Causes
Exchange 5.5 data loss can occur because of many specific issues. Some of these include not only the simple hard disk drive failure, but also jet errors, data controller card failures, Email deletions, failed drive sectors at key file save areas, virus attack, and many others. The highest percentage cause? Human errors AFTER the original issue. This is one case where being “part of the majority” is a must to avoid!
Some Warnings
In nearly every flavor of Exchange, there are certain things that can be watched for in order to ensure a successful recovery. One of the major problems we see on a day-to-day basis is when users try to use the Eseutil program, which is the most common tool to fix your Exchange Database with. The problem this utility can cause is that sometimes it can improperly overwrite data that is key to the overall stability of the system.
Another important point is that you should ALWAYS ensure your .edb files are backed up BEFORE you reinstall or upgrade your Exchange Server. Not doing so can result in errors that leave your files unrepairable.
